55er: Enemy

The enemy soldier lay lifeless in his trench.
He bent over the body, systematically looking for belongings.
He found a letter in the shirt pocket.

On reading it, he broke down, wondering about futility of war; of sacrifice for reasons unbeknownst.
For, the letter was from the deceased's wife, with a photo of their newborn.

  2. Thanks Sharvani, Di. Glad you liked it. Although I must point out that this piece is not entirely original. There have been tonnes of articles in the past about enemy soldiers feeling for each other in a war situation. This is merely my 55-er interpretation of the same :)
